Student Demographics Glossary

At-Risk: Students who score at the lowest performance level in a given subject on the Tennessee state assessment

CTE Concentrator: A student who has completed three or more courses in a single CTE Program of Study

CTE Student: A student who completed one or more CTE courses in the most recently completed school year

English Language Learner: Students who are actively receiving or have waived direct English as a Second Language instruction or have recently transitioned out of ESL services based on demonstrated English language proficiency

Economically Disadvantaged: Students who are directly certified by their LEA as eligible for needs-based assistance and/or are classified as runaway, homeless, migrant, and/or in foster care.

Functionally Delayed: A student who has a continuing significant disability in intellectual functioning and achievement that adversely affects the student's ability to progress in the general school program, but adaptive behavior in the home or community is not significantly impaired and is at or near a level appropriate to the student's chronological age

Gifted: A student whose intellectual abilities, creativity, and potential for achievement are so outstanding that the child's needs exceed differentiated general education programming, adversely affects educational performance, and requires specifically designed instruction or support services

Migrant: A student who is a migratory agricultural worker, migratory fisher, or has a parent, spouse, or guardian who is a migratory agricultural worker or migratory fisher and has made a move in the last three years out of economic necessity, from one school district to another, and from one residence to another

Not At-Risk: Students who score at the two highest performance levels in a given subject on the Tennessee state assessment

Students with Disabilities: A student who meets state and federal criteria for at least one of the following educational disabilities: hearing impairment (including deafness), a speech or language impairment, a visual impairment (including blindness), emotional disturbance, orthopedic impairment, autism, traumatic brain injury, other health impairment, specific learning disability, multiple disabilities, deaf blindness, or developmental delay, and receives special education and related services
